Our Destiny

Douglas S. Warren

When Douglas asked young people what they wanted to do with their lives, he heard a wish to help others. This opening passage introduces the spirit of service behind his work.

Introduction by the family project. The passage below is Douglas’s original text.

At my lectures, I occasionally ask young people what they want to do with their lives and why. If I repeatedly press the question, they invariably tell me that they wish to help improve the lives of others.

Try it, when you get the chance. I believe it will make you feel, as I do, that at the root of our humanity each of us has a need to serve, lighten loads, and enrich lives. I am convinced that by following through on this positive instinct, we find peace and joy. Conversely, you will discover that as we fail to do so we lose it. This basic, childlike selflessness is what I believe is our natural path to happiness and what awakens our sense of destiny. My hope for this book is that it will help you in your quest for happiness and awaken you to such a destiny.
